The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have announced their operational strategy for 2025, with a focus on enhancing field operations, ensuring stricter regulatory compliance, and intensifying efforts against illegal mining activities. This new plan also includes fostering deeper collaboration with the Mining Cadastre Office to improve the overall effectiveness of their mandate.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the Corps’ spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Thursday. In the statement, the Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Nkom, commended the Mining Marshals for their resilience and commitment to combating illegal mining, despite the numerous challenges they face.
Nkom highlighted the professionalism displayed by the marshals in protecting the nation’s economy from the detrimental effects of illegal mining. He praised their ability to resist financial temptations, threats, and external pressures while remaining dedicated to their duties. Nkom further emphasized that the NSCDC Mining Marshals have made significant contributions to both national economic development and environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, Nkom acknowledged the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Audi, noting that under his guidance, the Corps has experienced remarkable progress. He credited the NSCDC Mining Marshals for their unwavering efforts in advancing the mining sector and safeguarding the country’s resources.
To further strengthen the sector, the Mining Cadastre Office announced plans for system upgrades, including automating services and simplifying the mineral licence verification process to enhance transparency and regulatory oversight.
Squad Commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, AC John Attah, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities. He assured that legitimate mineral titleholders would be protected and supported in accessing their resources without obstruction. Attah also emphasized that the ongoing partnership with the Mining Cadastre Office would be crucial in addressing environmental and community challenges related to unauthorized mining.
The strategic operational plans for 2025 mark a significant step towards safeguarding the nation’s mining industry and reinforcing the efforts to ensure its long-term sustainability.
