The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has assured residents of heightened security throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations, with a robust deployment of personnel to maintain peace and order.
FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, revealed that 4,000 security operatives have been strategically deployed across the city and its environs to safeguard lives, protect critical national assets, and ensure public safety during the festive period.
The deployed personnel, drawn from specialized units such as the Special Intervention Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Unit, and the Operations Department, have been given the mandate to maintain a visible presence and prevent any security breaches.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, Odumosu urged his officers to adhere strictly to the operation orders, with a particular focus on securing worship centres, recreational facilities, markets, malls, bus parks, and other high-risk areas.
Odumosu also warned individuals considering exploiting the festive season for criminal activities that they would face severe consequences. “We are aware of the unique criminal tendencies during this period, and we are fully prepared to curtail any such breaches. Anyone planning to undermine the security of the FCT should reconsider their actions,” Odumosu said.
He further emphasized the Corps’ continuous 24-hour surveillance and patrols aimed at safeguarding public infrastructure and deterring vandals and scavengers. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of critical national assets and infrastructure in the FCT,” he assured, reaffirming the Command’s dedication to a peaceful and secure festive season.
In his call to action, the Commandant urged his personnel to maintain maximum cooperation with sister agencies, especially the Nigeria Police, to ensure a seamless operation. He also reminded armed personnel to exercise restraint when using firearms, as misuse would attract strict sanctions.
Odumosu concluded by urging FCT residents to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report any suspicious activities promptly to security agencies. “We assure you of your safety, and encourage you to go about your celebrations without fear,” he said.
