In a significant breakthrough against banditry, notorious bandit leaders Abu Radde and Umar Black have surrendered their weapons and released captives to the Nigerian Army following intensified military operations in Katsina State.

The surrender, which took place on January 19 in Batsari Local Government Area, was confirmed in a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday. The military described the development as a major stride toward restoring peace and security in the region.

“Following intense military operations by the combined forces of Op FASAN YANMA, bandit leaders Abu Radde and Umar Black, operating in Batsari and Safana LGAs in Katsina State, have surrendered their arms and captives,” the statement read. “This move marks a significant step towards ending banditry and criminality in the region.”

During the surrender, the bandits handed over four AK-47 rifles and freed 15 captives, including three men, eight women, and four children. The ceremony was witnessed by military representatives and other stakeholders to ensure transparency.

The Army emphasized that the surrender was not the result of any negotiation or peace agreement but a critical step toward the complete disarmament of the bandits and the liberation of kidnapped victims.

The statement further revealed that the surrendered weapons, reported to be in good condition, are now under the custody of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. Meanwhile, the freed captives have been handed over to local government authorities for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

This development underscores the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to combat insecurity in Katsina State and surrounding regions through decisive military action.

As authorities continue to push for lasting peace, the surrender of Abu Radde and Umar Black is seen as a promising step in the fight against banditry in Northern Nigeria.
