Mallam Garba Shehu, former spokesperson to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed speculations of a strained relationship between his principal and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that both leaders remain aligned and committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes, Shehu said rumors of a rift are unfounded and not supported by any formal disagreement.
“People are entitled to their opinions, but there is no official basis for claims of distrust between the Buhari and Tinubu administrations,” he said.
According to Shehu, Buhari remains a loyal member of the APC, the party that brought him to power in 2015 after three failed attempts. He stressed that Buhari has remained grateful to the party and has no intention of turning his back on it.
“For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s essentially an APC man. He has always said he will never be ungrateful or betray the party that gave him two terms in office,” Shehu noted.
Reacting to commentary about internal tensions within the ruling party, Shehu said Buhari’s camp remains unfazed by such speculation.
“We see the statements and read the headlines, but disturbed? That’s not the word,” he said.
He added that those who were instrumental in the formation of the APC in 2014 understand the sacrifices it took to unite opposition forces, and are unlikely to be the ones working to destabilize it.
“It took a lot of sacrifice to build the APC. The people who witnessed that process firsthand are not the ones trying to fracture it now,” Shehu concluded.
