NJC Recommends Wike’s Wife for Appeal Court, Ariwoola’s Daughter-in-law for High Court

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, wife of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for promotion to the Court of Appeal. Justice Suzzette, who is the immediate past First Lady of Rivers State, currently serves as a Justice at the Rivers State High Court. She is among 21 individuals recommended for elevation to the appellate court.

In a similar move, Oluwakemi Victoria Ariwoola, daughter-in-law to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has been recommended for elevation to the Federal High Court in Abuja. She is one of 12 judges listed for promotion to the high court.

Justice Suzzette and Justice Victoria are part of a larger group of 86 judges recommended by the Interview Committee on Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria.

The recommendations were made during the NJC’s 105th plenary meeting, held on May 15-16, 2024. According to a statement by the NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, dated May 16, 2024, all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in following the approval of their appointments by the President and their respective State Governors.
