Flooding: Lagos issues fresh alert on Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, others

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy rains, thunderstorms, and potential flooding across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weekend forecast, the agency cautioned residents, particularly in central and southern regions, to brace for severe weather conditions.

According to NiMet, the northern region will experience morning thunderstorms on Monday over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States, with moderate rains expected later in Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa States. Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto have been identified as high flood-risk areas during the period.

In the North-Central zone, light rain is expected over parts of Niger State in the morning, while the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi States may experience thunderstorms and light rains in the afternoon and evening. NiMet warned of a high possibility of flooding in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States.

For the southern region, cloudy skies and light morning rains are expected over parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, followed by moderate rains later in the day across Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States. Flood risks remain high in Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet urged residents in flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
