Helen Williams, a Nigerian, has broken the previous record for the longest handcrafted wig. This was revealed on Tuesday by the Guinness World Record on its X account. At 1,152 feet and five inches, the wig stretches an amazing 351.28 meters. Making the wig took her eleven days and more than two million nairas (£2,031; $2,493).

Helen has been a professional wigmaker for eight years, putting together between fifty and three hundred wigs a week, according to the GWR.

“Helen Williams from Lagos, Nigeria has achieved a new record for the longest handmade wig which stretches an incredible 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in),” GWR tweeted.

She created the underlay using black cloth and wig-cap netting, which she then secured to a cycling helmet. She finished the hairpiece with 6,250 hair clips, 12 hair spray cans, 35 hair adhesive tubes, and 1,000 bundles of hair.

“Finding the materials to make the longest wig was not an easy task. My experience as a wigmaker helped a lot,” Helen said.

“The biggest challenge Helen faced was finding a space to have the wig laid out in a straight line and accurately measured, as none of the venues she visited – including several running tracks – were long enough to accommodate it.

“She eventually decided to do it beside the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, a long road connecting the cities of Lagos and Abeokuta,” GWR disclosed on its website.

Helen claims to have been a professional wigmaker for eight years, turning out between fifty and three hundred wigs per week. As she said: “I have made thousands of wigs and trained hundreds of students.”
