The Federal Government is set to enhance national security and streamline travel processes with the introduction of an e-visa system and digital landing/exit cards. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and their respective delegations.
The new e-visa system will allow applicants to submit visa requests and upload required documents online, while the traditional manual landing and exit cards will be digitized. This will require visitors to pre-fill their details before traveling to Nigeria, making the process more efficient and secure.
Keyamo highlighted the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation in implementing the initiative, stressing that the project aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing security and efficiency at Nigeria’s borders. He also noted that relevant agencies, including Immigration, NCAA, and FAAN, would fully support the initiative.
Tunji-Ojo further revealed that the automation system would go live on May 1, with the e-visa application being free of charge. The system is designed to simplify entry into the country while ensuring robust security measures. Additionally, the NCAA will oversee the management of digital landing and exit cards, which travelers must complete online prior to boarding.
The introduction of the e-visa system and digital landing cards aims to eliminate bottlenecks and improve transparency in Nigeria’s visa processes, with enhanced background checks to ensure safer borders. Both the Interior and Aviation Ministries are collaborating to make these advancements a reality.
These initiatives are part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to improve travel procedures without compromising security, paving the way for a more efficient and safer entry system for international travelers.
