Nigeria records 250 new cases of COVID-19 as Lagos plans further reopening

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), announced on Saturday, 29 August 2020, that Nigeria has recorded 250 new cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

This update came after the Governor of the country’s virus epicentre, Lagos State, announced the resumption of schools in the state next month as the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to decline.

Plateau state recorded the highest number with 69 new cases within the past 24 hours, with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ranking second with 41 new cases.

Other states with new cases include Lagos-21, Delta and Kaduna-14 cases each, Bayelsa-13, Enugu-13, Ekiti-11, Bauchi-9, Ogun-8, Edo and Oyo-7 cases each, Rivers-6, Adamawa and Osun-4 cases each, Nasarawa-3, Ebonyi and Kwara -2 cases each, Gombe and Imo-1 case each.

The new cases bring the country’s total number of cases to 53,727 meanwhile, at least 41,314 cases of the virus have now been resolved in the country, while 1,011 have died.
