Nigeria records 1,598 more COVID-19 cases, seven deaths

Nigeria recorded 1,598 more COVID-19 cases and seven deaths.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this on Saturday night, January 16, 2021, via its Twitter handle.

According to the health agency, Lagos remains the epicentre of the virus with 461 new cases, trailed closely by the FCT with 206 cases.

The other states whose fresh infections crossed 100 include Plateau – 197, Rivers – 168, Kaduna – 116.

Others include Anambra – 53 Ogun – 49, Ebonyi 47, Edo – 42, Sokoto – 32, Imo and Katsina – 31, Oyo – 30, Akwa Ibom – 27, Delta and Kano – 16, Abia and Niger – 15.

States with fewer cases are Ondo – 11, Bayelsa – 10, Borno – 9, Kebbi – 8, Ekiti – 7 and Jigawa recording just 1 case.

With 1,598 new cases, the total tally of coronavirus infections in the country increased to 108,943.

The seven new deaths raised the number of deaths across the country to 1,420 in total.

Over time, 85,367 people have recovered from the COVID-19.
