The Nigerian government has announced a three-month grace period for all foreigners residing in the country with expired visas, giving them until August 1, 2025, to leave without facing penalties.
This directive was contained in a statement released on Friday, May 2, 2025, by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). According to the Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the measure is part of renewed enforcement efforts targeting immigration compliance.
“Overstaying a visa will now attract a daily fine of $15, along with a potential five-year entry ban or permanent blacklisting starting from September 2025,” the NIS warned.
In addition to the grace period, the NIS also announced the launch of mandatory online travel cards. All inbound foreigners are now required to complete a landing card, while outbound travelers must fill an exit card. Both documents are available at lecard.immigration.gov.ng.
The immigration agency urged all affected individuals and travelers to comply promptly with the new guidelines to avoid sanctions.
