The Governments of Nigeria and Germany have strengthened their bilateral defence cooperation with the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence and the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG).
The signing ceremony, held on Friday in Abuja, was marked by the reaffirmation of both nations’ commitment to long-term security collaboration and developmental goals. Speaking at the event, Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described the renewed agreement as a strategic counterpart funding arrangement that underscores the robust defence ties between the two countries.
Aduda highlighted that the agreement aligns with Nigeria and Germany’s shared objectives, promoting long-term security cooperation. He stressed the Nigerian government’s dedication to maintaining accountability and efficiency throughout the implementation process, ensuring that all procurement aspects undergo thorough evaluation to guarantee value for money.
He further assured that adherence to strict timelines and rigorous monitoring would be prioritized to facilitate the successful execution of all agreed engagements.
In his remarks, the German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp, expressed Germany’s unwavering commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He praised the enduring partnership between both nations and underscored the importance of strengthening existing agreements to tackle evolving security challenges.
The renewed MoU represents a significant milestone in the Nigeria-Germany defence partnership, reinforcing collective efforts to boost security, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
