The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its approval of the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. This development was disclosed in a statement by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday in Abuja.

The statement highlighted that the agreement provides hope for ending the extensive loss of civilian lives and the humanitarian crisis that has plagued Gaza over the past 15 months. Additionally, it offers relief to the families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and some Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.

Nigeria welcomed the delivery of much-needed aid and relief materials made possible by the peace deal, emphasizing its potential to foster hope and compassion among the people of the region.

“The Federal Government commends the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States of America for their tireless efforts during negotiations that secured the ceasefire agreement. These nations will now serve as international guarantors of its implementation,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Nigeria urged all parties involved to leverage the current momentum to ensure the successful execution of the agreement’s subsequent phases. The government also reiterated its unwavering support for a two-state solution as the pathway to achieving a fair and enduring peace for Palestine, Israel, and the broader region.
