Niger State Government Deploys Medical Team Following Dikko Junction Tanker Explosion

The Niger State Government has swiftly responded to the devastating tanker explosion at Dikko Junction by deploying an 18-member multi-disciplinary medical team to provide immediate medical relief to the victims.

In accordance with the directive of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the team is tasked with offering free medical services and ensuring adequate staffing at healthcare facilities treating those affected by the explosion.

The team, led by the Commissioner for Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare, Dr. Tukur Bello, includes the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Shehu Ahmed, and the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Bagana.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, provided an update on the victims’ conditions. The medical team has assessed the patients and referred those requiring intensive care to tertiary healthcare facilities in Abuja.

As of the latest report, 43 male patients have been admitted to Suleja General Hospital, with seven confirmed fatalities and three patients discharged. Ten patients have been referred to Abuja for specialized treatment, while 23 individuals are receiving care for various degrees of burns.

At the General Hospital in Sabon-Wuse, 23 patients were initially admitted. Tragically, three patients passed away within 6-8 hours of admission, while 19 others were discharged against medical advice. One critically injured patient was referred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja.

Ebbo also confirmed that the Ministry of Health team took the opportunity to deliver medical supplies and commodities donated by the Niger State Government to both hospitals.

The state’s prompt action aims to mitigate the impact of the tragedy and provide essential care to those in need.
