In a decisive move to tackle rising insecurity in Minna, the Niger State Government has imposed a daily curfew on commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operators, restricting their movements between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made the announcement during a stakeholders’ security meeting held in the state capital, stating that the measure became necessary following a series of violent incidents that claimed innocent lives.
“The safety of Nigerlites and residents is paramount. Only those seeking urgent medical attention are exempted from the restriction,” the governor said.
As part of the security crackdown, Governor Bago directed security agencies to arrest anyone found wielding weapons, declaring that such individuals would be treated as armed robbers. He further warned against attempts to harass security operatives, noting that such acts would be seen as direct confrontations with the state government.
In an additional measure, the governor ordered the arrest of individuals with dreadlocks, mandating that their hair be shaved and fines imposed. He urged parents to caution their children, warning that violators would face the full weight of the law.
“The enforcement will be total — 100 per cent. It’s fire for fire. Enough is enough,” Bago declared.
The government’s tough stance marks a new phase in its bid to restore peace and order in the state capital amid growing public concern over insecurity.
