NCAA Announces Passenger Compensation by Air Peace and Aero Contractors for 2024 Flight Disruptions

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Air Peace and Aero Contractors have compensated passengers for various disruptions, including flight delays, cancellations, and cabin class downgrades, throughout 2024.

In a report released on Monday via X, the NCAA detailed that Air Peace compensated 1,901 passengers in November 2024 alone. In contrast, Aero Contractors provided compensation to 20 passengers for the entire year. The report, signed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, on behalf of NCAA Director-General Chris Najomo, outlined the compensation strategies employed by the airlines.

Air Peace’s compensation primarily addressed business class downgrades, with the airline offering a 65% discount for each downgrade. Additional compensations were provided for issues related to unscheduled maintenance, technical difficulties, operational disruptions, aircraft swaps, and short-landed baggage. Notably, on November 16, 2024, Air Peace’s flight 7170, which was scheduled to travel from Lagos to Benin City, experienced operational disruptions affecting 129 passengers. These passengers were given a 25% discount as compensation. Similarly, on November 4, 2024, compensation was provided to 117 passengers on flight 7425, which was set to fly from Kano to Abuja.

Aero Contractors, though providing compensation to a smaller number of passengers, offered solutions including economy class tickets and business class return tickets.

The NCAA’s report underscores the ongoing efforts by the two airlines to mitigate the impact of service disruptions on passengers and ensure consumer protection in the aviation sector.
