The National Assembly has announced the immediate suspension of all legislative activities in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at a London clinic after a prolonged illness.
In an official statement released on Monday, Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk of the National Assembly, said the decision was jointly directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, 22 July, 2025,” the statement read.
Lawmakers have been urged to adjust their schedules to allow full participation in the funeral rites of the late president.
The leadership of both chambers extended their condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, the government and people of Katsina State, as well as the late president’s family.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his legacy of integrity.
May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
