Mutfwang Marks Milestone with Bold Recovery Plans

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding communities ravaged by conflict and restoring hope to displaced persons across the state. He made the pledge during a statewide broadcast commemorating his second year in office.

The governor said his government, in collaboration with the Federal Government and international development partners, is actively working to resettle displaced persons and reconstruct broken communities.

“Fellow citizens, the last two years have tested us. We faced legal distractions, suffered continued attacks on rural communities, and inherited a struggling economy,” Mutfwang said. “But we did not falter. We kept faith and stayed the course. Now, we are beginning to see signs of the Plateau of our dreams.”

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor said significant steps have been taken to improve security, including the revitalization of Operation Rainbow for intelligence gathering and the establishment of an Emergency Communications Centre with a toll-free line to enable rapid response to crises. Additionally, the Plateau State Activity Centre has been equipped with modern surveillance technology to enhance security.

In the civil service, Mutfwang noted that salary arrears of four and a half months were cleared, while regular salary, gratuity, and pension payments—neglected since 1984—have resumed. Promotions, training, and the restoration of electricity in government offices have also been implemented, boosting morale among workers.

On the economic front, the governor highlighted the impact of the Tin City Metro transport service, which now eases daily movement for over 9,000 passengers in Jos and Bukuru, offering each a subsidy valued at about ₦39,000 monthly. With 15 new buses recently added to the fleet, the total number now stands at 30. Interstate mobility has also improved with the introduction of Toyota Sienna vehicles on major routes like Jos–Abuja.

Mutfwang also unveiled broader transportation plans, including a partnership with ValueJet Airlines for thrice-weekly Jos–Abuja and Lagos–Jos flights, and a collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to revive rail transport in Plateau—a project set to launch soon.

In agriculture, the administration recovered over 900 hectares of land for internally displaced persons (IDPs), distributed fertilizers and farming inputs worth ₦16 billion, and trained hundreds of young farmers. The state also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, to train youths in agribusiness and develop agro-processing hubs across Plateau.

Infrastructure development was another highlight, with Mutfwang announcing the rehabilitation of over 111 kilometers of urban roads under the Urban Infrastructure Renewal Programme. Additionally, the state resumed construction on more than 3,000 kilometers of road projects originally initiated by the Jang administration but left abandoned for years.

“To every community that has suffered loss, I assure you that we have not forgotten you. We are engaging with the Federal Government and donor agencies to bring relief, justice, and long-term peace,” the governor stated.

Governor Mutfwang concluded his address by calling on citizens to remain hopeful and united, assuring them that the foundation for a just, inclusive, and prosperous Plateau was already being laid. “These achievements are only the beginning. The Plateau of our dreams is within reach,” he declared.
