Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu Returns to Nigeria Following UK Sentencing

0

Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to the country.

A reliable source confirmed her arrival to Vanguard on Wednesday.

The development comes after a UK court sentenced Senator Ekweremadu, his wife, and a medical doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta, over charges related to organ harvesting.

In May 2023, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was handed a 10-year prison sentence, while Mrs. Ekweremadu received a six-year sentence. Dr. Obeta, also implicated in the case, was sentenced to a similar term.

The case drew widespread attention and underscored the legal and ethical complexities surrounding organ transplantation and exploitation.

Efforts to reach the Ekweremadu family for comments on Mrs. Ekweremadu’s return have so far been unsuccessful.
