ZAMFARA STATE — Prominent human rights advocate, Hamdiyya Sidi Sharif, who was declared missing earlier in the week, has been found in critical condition at Bakura Hospital in Zamfara State.
Her lawyer, Barrister Abba Hikima, confirmed her discovery in a statement posted to Facebook, revealing that she is currently under the watch of security personnel. He also stated that the condition in which she was found strongly suggests she had been abducted.
Hamdiyya was last seen on Tuesday morning after leaving to purchase food items in Sokoto town. All efforts to trace her whereabouts had been unsuccessful until her recent discovery.
Barrister Hikima has called on the Zamfara State Government and relevant security agencies to prioritize her safety and launch a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and current state.
This disturbing development unfolds amid persistent security challenges in Northwestern Nigeria, where kidnappings and attacks remain a pressing concern.
