KANO – Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has condemned former Kano State governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his remarks against President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Kwankwaso had labeled the decision unconstitutional, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent for impunity. However, in a statement issued in Kano, Ata defended the president’s move, describing it as a necessary step to safeguard national stability and restore order amid prolonged political unrest in Rivers. He also commended the National Assembly for swiftly endorsing the declaration.

The minister accused Kwankwaso of misinterpreting governance and the rule of law, alleging that during his tenure as Kano governor, he fostered a culture of political intimidation and undermined legislative independence.

Ata further criticized Kwankwaso’s involvement in the emirship dispute in Kano, citing persistent disregard for court rulings by the state government. He warned that undermining traditional institutions and the judiciary only fuels political instability and public discontent.

Urging Kwankwaso to refrain from making unfounded statements on sensitive national matters, Ata reaffirmed that Tinubu’s decision was well within his constitutional authority and taken in the country’s best interest.
