The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Junoke Oduwole, has assured that 2025 will be a pivotal year for businesses in Nigeria.
Speaking during a ministerial engagement with members of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) over the weekend, Oduwole emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the private sector to drive economic progress.
“2025 has to be an impactful year – a very important year for Nigeria,” she stated. “The ministry is here for you, to have substantive discussions and include you in strategic planning and agenda setting for 2025.”
Oduwole commended NACCIMA’s resilience and contributions to the economy, noting that actionable and measurable steps will be taken to address challenges raised by stakeholders. She underscored the importance of open communication and collaboration, promising visible changes starting January 2025.
Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s focus on private-sector growth, Oduwole said, “NACCIMA is specifically mentioned in my mandate to show how seriously the government values your contributions.”
NACCIMA President Dele Oye welcomed the minister’s engagement, calling for strengthened collaboration to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). He also advocated for stricter regulation of trade fairs to curb the influx of substandard goods into the country.
“Trade fairs link industries with markets, and we’ve had this mandate from the ministry since 1977. However, the proliferation of unregulated fairs undermines consumer confidence,” Oye said, urging the ministry’s support in addressing the issue.
The dialogue sets the stage for enhanced public-private sector synergy aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s economic landscape in the coming year.
