Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, has thrown his weight behind Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as a potential candidate for the next Governor of Lagos State. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Seun Okinbaloye, Olawande described Seyi as a well-trained and capable young leader, asserting that he is fully qualified to take on the role of governor.
The conversation surrounding Seyi’s possible gubernatorial candidacy gained momentum late last year when the socio-political organization, Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST), officially endorsed him for the position. Olawande emphasized that Seyi, a prominent figure known for empowering many young Nigerians, has already proven his leadership abilities. He dismissed any notions that Seyi was personally behind the growing campaign, clarifying that the push for his candidacy was not initiated by the president’s son.
“Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” Olawande stated. He further added, “Everybody has the tendency to become whatever he or she wants, and when you’re in the public eye, people will have their opinions about you.”
Despite the growing support for his potential run, Seyi Tinubu has remained tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying any political aspirations for the 2027 elections. The calls for his candidacy continue to resonate, with many seeing him as a fresh and dynamic choice for the future of Lagos.
