Minister Adelabu Urges APC to Reclaim Oyo State from Governor Makinde

In a strategic push for political realignment, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to leverage the party’s recent successes in Edo and Ondo States to wrest control of Oyo State from Governor Seyi Makinde. Adelabu made this appeal on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the APC National Working Committee at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

Leading a delegation of Oyo State APC executives and lawmakers, Adelabu emphasized that the party’s prior losses in Oyo stemmed from internal divisions, which have now been resolved. He assured the leadership that the state chapter is united and determined to reclaim governance in the 2027 elections.

“Oyo APC is no longer a house divided. We are more united and committed than ever to taking over governance in Oyo State,” Adelabu stated. “We lost the last two elections not because we lacked popularity or effort but due to divisions within our ranks. However, we have learnt from our mistakes and have reconciled all aggrieved factions and chieftains in the state. Oyo is an APC state, and we are ready to prove it.”

The minister also highlighted APC’s grassroots support, recalling the party’s performance in 2019 when it secured two senatorial and 10 House of Representatives seats despite internal conflicts. Praising President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and Ganduje’s organizational strategies, Adelabu urged the chairman to guide and support the Oyo APC chairman to emulate the national leadership’s successes.

In response, Ganduje commended the Oyo APC for resolving its internal crisis and demonstrating unity. He proposed a mega stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan to consolidate the party’s strength and intimidate the opposition.

“Oyo is integral to our strategy of achieving political party homogeneity,” Ganduje stated. “We are now seeing the unity and commitment we have been striving for. I encourage you to make your party offices functional and host regular meetings to maintain coherence and momentum. This approach will not only strengthen the party but also send a strong message to the opposition.”

Ganduje also underscored the importance of reclaiming House of Representatives seats lost due to the deaths of APC members.

“The task ahead is to recover all our lost seats and prepare effectively for the 2027 general elections,” he added.

The visit signals a renewed determination within the APC to consolidate its position in Oyo State and underscores the party’s commitment to robust internal reforms ahead of future electoral contests.
