Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested two suspects linked to the abduction and murder of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest of the Kafanchan Diocese in Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by OPSH Media Officer, Maj. Samson Zhakom, the suspects were apprehended during a military raid on a settlement in the Warsa-Piti community of Lere Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State.
Fr. Okechukwu was abducted from his residence in Tachira, Kaura LGA, on March 4 at approximately 9:15 p.m. His lifeless body was discovered the following day, March 5.
During the raid, the prime suspect, a 33-year-old man, allegedly confessed to being contracted by another individual residing in the same house as the slain priest. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the second suspect in Agwan Sarki, Tachira, Kaura LGA.
“The suspects are currently in custody undergoing further interrogation, while investigations continue to track down others involved in this heinous crime,” Zhakom stated.
The military task force reaffirmed its commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of communities in the region.
