Chief Ncheta Mbazulike-Amechi, son of the late First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, has cautioned against politicizing the ongoing rift between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, warning that unverified allegations could destabilize the legislature and hinder national development.
In a statement issued on Monday, titled *“Let Akpabio Breathe,”* Mbazulike-Amechi emphasized that Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges require undivided attention, urging leaders to prioritize governance over politically charged controversies.
While acknowledging the seriousness of all claims related to sexual harassment, he questioned the timing and motive behind Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations, arguing that linking such claims to a political dispute raises doubts about their credibility.
“The recent allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President are not only unfounded but appear to be a deliberate attempt to distract him from his crucial role in steering the Senate,” he stated.
Praising Akpabio’s leadership, Mbazulike-Amechi highlighted the Senate’s role in ensuring legislative stability, policy direction, and effective oversight under his tenure, in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“This is not to dismiss or trivialize legitimate cases of sexual harassment, but in this instance, the allegations raise more questions than answers. If indeed there was wrongdoing, why wait until now to make these accusations?” he added.
Calling on Nigerians to reject politically motivated distractions, he concluded:
“Nigeria cannot afford to be derailed by sensationalism. Let Senator Godswill Akpabio breathe.”
