Former presidential candidate and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced the defection of thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) members to the NNPP in Kano State.
Kwankwaso, who disclosed the development in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, described the event as a “momentous occasion,” highlighting the growing influence of the NNPP in the state.
“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” he wrote.
The former Kano State Governor revealed that he welcomed the new members at his residence in Kano, assuring them of fairness, inclusion, and active cooperation within the party.
“I promised them equitable treatment and cooperation,” Kwankwaso stated, adding that the NNPP’s style of leadership in Kano has become a magnet for members of rival parties.
“The distinguished leadership style in Kano and our political leadership keep attracting more people into our fold, and I encourage those considering joining to do so without any hesitation,” he said.
The latest wave of defections is seen as a major political shift in the state, potentially strengthening the NNPP’s position ahead of future elections.
