Ibadan, Nigeria – Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured victims of the devastating fire incident at Aleshinloye Market of his administration’s immediate support.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, visited the scene on Wednesday to assess the extent of the damage and sympathize with affected traders.
The inferno, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira. Fortunately, no lives were lost.
Governor Makinde emphasized the government’s commitment to providing prompt relief once a full assessment of the incident is completed. He also directed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to enhance security measures within the market.
“This is a major and well-known market, and the losses suffered here are painful. Rest assured, the government will take necessary steps to support affected traders immediately,” he said.
He noted that the nature of goods in the affected section, particularly plastics, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
The governor assured that the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA) would collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other well-meaning individuals to provide relief to the victims.
“We will mobilize all necessary resources to assist those affected and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future,” he stated.
