IBADAN — Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that his administration will cease initiating or awarding new capital projects from the end of September 2025, shifting full focus to completing all ongoing projects before his tenure concludes in 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during a luncheon held at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, to mark the Islamic New Year (Hijrah 1447), Governor Makinde said the decision is part of his administration’s commitment to leaving no project abandoned.
“By the end of September this year — in the next eight weeks — this government will not commit to any major projects again,” Makinde said. “Whatever projects we have already committed to, we will see them through because we do not want to leave any uncompleted or abandoned projects by the time we are leaving in the next 22 months.”
As part of this focus, the governor revealed that a contract had recently been awarded for the reconstruction of the Okaka–Igbojaye Road in Itesiwaju Local Government Area. The road leads to the Kunle Afolayan Film Production Village in Igbojaye, and Makinde assured the community that the project would be completed within his remaining tenure.
During the event, the governor also reflected on the values of Hijrah, urging residents to embrace virtues such as self-discipline, perseverance, tolerance, and good deeds. He thanked the Muslim community in Oyo State for their continued support and prayers, which he said have contributed to peace and progress.
Governor Makinde further called on religious and community leaders to continue offering their guidance and counsel to his administration until its final day in office.
