DUTSE, JIGAWA STATE — Less than two years to Nigeria’s next general elections, fresh political signals are emerging as campaign posters bearing the image of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, have surfaced in key parts of Jigawa State, fuelling speculation about his potential presidential bid in 2027.
The posters — adorned with the insignia of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — were prominently displayed across strategic locations in Dutse, the state capital. Bold campaign messages such as “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027: His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President” and “2027: Seyi Makinde Is the Answer” featured on the materials.
Major areas where the posters were sighted include the Unity Pentagon, Police Headquarters Roundabout, Mai Kwarin Roundabout, Obasanjo Road, Muhammadu Buhari Street, Abdulsalami Abubakar Street, and Abdullahi Mai Kano Road — all high-traffic zones in the capital.
Confirming the development, the National Secretary of the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group for Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, said the move was part of a deliberate mobilisation effort by youth groups across the country.
“We have met as different groups and agreed to support Seyi Makinde for President in 2027. We are reaching out to various stakeholders to achieve this goal,” Abdullahi told journalists in Dutse.
He added that consultations were already underway with political figures across Nigeria, while plans are in top gear to widen the campaign’s visibility.
“By next week, we intend to extend the distribution of posters and campaign materials to other northern states, including Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe,” he said.
According to Abdullahi, the initiative will also move into southern Nigeria in the coming weeks as part of a nationwide mobilisation drive aimed at building momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of press time, Governor Makinde has not made any official statement regarding his intention to run for president. However, the activities of NYAG Makinde 2027 have added fresh fuel to the growing speculations.
