Lukman Calls for the Emergence of a New Political Party to Defeat APC in 2027 Election

A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North West, Salihu Lukman, has urged Nigerians to unite and work towards the defeat of the ruling APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. Lukman made this call in a statement issued on Thursday, stressing the need for a new, functional political party that prioritizes internal democracy and adheres to its own rules.

According to Lukman, the defeat of the APC and President Tinubu in 2027 is only achievable if Nigerians focus on creating a party that stands in stark contrast to the current dominant parties, including the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). He emphasized that such a party must be built on principles that encourage internal competition, rather than one that allows candidates to impose leaders who would, in turn, endorse them as party candidates.

Lukman also warned that despite expectations for free and fair elections, Nigerians could face another scenario where the 2027 election, while relatively credible, results in the election of leaders who merely uphold the status quo. He pointed out the risk of retaining leaders who may appear committed to solving Nigeria’s challenges but ultimately perpetuate the existing problems.

“For true change to occur, Nigerians must focus on forming a party that guarantees internal democracy, where leaders emerge through competition, not imposition,” Lukman said. “Without this, we risk maintaining the cycle of leadership that only pretends to resolve Nigeria’s issues while leaving the real challenges unaddressed.”

Lukman’s statement underscores the urgency for Nigerians to build a political system capable of electing genuinely democratic leaders, not leaders who act as emperors and preserve the flawed status quo.
