The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 44 street traders and vendors illegally occupying roadsides around the Mile 2 Oke bridge, as part of ongoing efforts to restore order and ensure free movement along major highways in the metropolis.
The operation, led by the Agency’s Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, targeted persistent obstructions, traffic congestion, and environmental hazards caused by roadside trading.
“Despite repeated warnings and enforcement exercises, some individuals continue to defy regulations by trading illegally on major roads and pedestrian walkways,” Akerele said. “This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure compliance and improve the safety and ease of movement for Lagosians.”
The chairman revealed that the Mile 2 bridge has seen three enforcement exercises this year due to recurring violations. He warned traders who evaded arrest to move to designated markets or risk being apprehended and having their goods confiscated.
Akerele also expressed concern over criminal elements using street trading as a cover for illegal activities, vowing to intensify operations across the state.
“We are aware that some criminals hide under the guise of street trading to perpetrate evil. That ends today as we go all out to disrupt their activities,” he declared.
He urged residents to utilize the agency’s feedback channels to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the collective responsibility in maintaining public order.
