In response to the recent fire outbreak at Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated the government’s commitment to demolish buildings that fail integrity tests in Lagos State.
Following an assessment of the aftermath of the fire incident, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed concern over the structural integrity of buildings in the area. He emphasized the need to take proactive measures to prevent similar disasters in the future.
Addressing the media at the site of the fire, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “A lot of residential apartments have been turned to warehouses. I am saying without any iota of doubt that more buildings will go down.”
The governor highlighted the importance of adhering to construction regulations and ensuring the safety of lives and properties. He emphasized that any property found not conforming to the rules and regulations of construction will be demolished.
Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the indefinite closure of Dosunmu Market and pledged government support to those affected by the fire incident.
“We will support those affected by the fire so they can get back on their feet,” Governor Sanwo-Olu affirmed, while emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritizing safety and preventing avoidable accidents.
The Lagos State Government remains resolute in its efforts to enforce building standards and protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
