The Lagos State Police Command has commenced a large-scale security operation across the state to ensure a safe and peaceful Easter celebration for residents and visitors alike.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate deployment of personnel and tactical units to maintain law and order throughout the holiday.
The comprehensive deployment includes conventional police officers, elite strike teams, and specialized tactical squads such as the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, K9 units, and mounted troops.
These forces have been strategically positioned at critical areas across Lagos, including known black spots and high-risk zones, to deter criminal activity and provide rapid response in case of emergencies.
“All strategic locations across the length and breadth of Lagos State are being manned to prevent crime and criminality, eliminate fear, and ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration this year and beyond,” the statement emphasized.
Particular attention is being paid to churches, entertainment venues, parks, beaches, and other public gathering spots expected to attract large crowds during the festivities.
To boost operational effectiveness, officers have been equipped with patrol vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, and other logistics required to carry out their duties efficiently.
Commissioner Jimoh highlighted the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, assuring the public that the police will be working closely with the military, paramilitary bodies, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to safeguard lives and property.
He urged officers to uphold professionalism, be courteous and respectful of human rights, while remaining firm in their responsibilities.
The public has been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. Reports of police misconduct should be forwarded to the Lagos State Command’s Complaint Response Unit for swift action.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of Lagosians, promising a peaceful and enjoyable Easter holiday for all.
