LAGOS – The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly be joined as parties in the lawsuit filed by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his removal as Speaker.

Presiding over the case, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro also adjourned proceedings to March 7, 2025, to hear all pending applications.

Obasa, through his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), filed the suit on February 12, 2025, contesting his ousting by 36 lawmakers on January 13 while he was out of the country.

Representing the lawmakers, a legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana includes Muiz Banire (SAN) and other counsels. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, who was appointed Speaker following Obasa’s removal, is being represented by a legal team led by Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and Bimbo Akeredolu (SAN). Additionally, Senior Advocates Olu Daramola and Dada Awosika are representing other parties seeking to be joined in the suit.

With the court’s latest ruling, the legal battle over Obasa’s removal is set to intensify in the coming weeks.
