The Lagos State Government has empowered 1,500 aspiring entrepreneurs with tools, equipment, and grants under the Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI). The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), also provided financial assistance of ₦50,000 each to 200 women.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of self-reliance and economic growth, highlighting the success of the program’s first edition as the motivation for the second phase. He described MESI as a critical step toward reducing poverty and nurturing entrepreneurial skills in Lagos.

Commissioner for WAPA, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, commended the governor for his unwavering support for women’s empowerment and noted that 70% of the beneficiaries were graduates of WAPA’s skills acquisition centers. She stated that the distributed tools and equipment, ranging from stoning and sewing machines to agricultural items, were tailored to meet the diverse needs of the entrepreneurs.

“These resources are not just tools of trade but instruments of transformation designed to grow businesses and uplift communities,” Dada said, urging beneficiaries to seize the opportunity and work towards achieving their entrepreneurial goals.
