The Lagos State House of Assembly has provided clarification regarding the invasion of its complex by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the early hours of Monday, February 17, 2025.

The Acting Clerk of the House, A. Ottun, addressed the controversy, stating that the assembly had called upon security agencies to assist in ensuring the safety and order within the premises, and not to seal off any offices.

In a letter dated February 14, 2025, signed by Ottun, the Assembly management informed the DSS and other security agencies in Lagos about credible intelligence regarding plans to forcibly reinstate the impeached Speaker of the House on February 18, 2025. The letter emphasized that such an attempt posed a significant security threat to both the Assembly and its members.

The communication, referenced as LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, was addressed to the DSS Director in Lagos and the heads of other security agencies in the state. It read, in part: “Urgent: Enhanced Security Measures for LSHA Premises,” outlining the potential threat posed by the reappointment of the impeached Speaker.

The letter further requested security agencies to increase their presence at the Assembly premises starting Sunday, February 16, 2025, and to enforce strict access control measures both inside and outside the building until further notice.

The Assembly’s management stressed the importance of fortifying security to prevent any breaches and ensure the safety of the House’s members and property.
