LP threatens nationwide protest at INEC offices over BVAS
The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed strong confidence in its prospects for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12, provided the process remains free, fair, and credible.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the Deputy Chairman of the party in Lagos, Mr. Olusupo Ajayi, said the LP is well-positioned to make significant gains at the grassroots level.

According to the timetable released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), 26 chairmanship candidates emerged on Friday to contest the elections, which will be conducted across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Ajayi described the LP’s delegate-based primaries across 26 councils as peaceful and transparent, stating that the party is now focused on running a vigorous and strategic campaign.

“Recall that we had the highest number of votes in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election,” he said. “The people of Lagos still resonate with the vision and message of the Labour Party.”

He emphasised that the July election is a true test of grassroots mobilization and reiterated the party’s commitment to transformative governance and meaningful development. Despite facing the dominance of the ruling party, Ajayi maintained that LP is determined to empower local communities.

He assured that the party’s campaign will adhere strictly to legal frameworks and focus on building strong relationships with voters across the state.

Should the party succeed at the polls, Ajayi said LP will prioritize community-based governance, consistent public engagement, and transparency. He added that their participation in the elections reflects a broader commitment to strengthening democracy and restoring public trust.

Ajayi also appealed to the Chairperson of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, to ensure a credible electoral process.

“In the end, we will all return to dust. What we leave behind is goodwill for our children and future generations,” he said. “I hope she maintains her integrity so her legacy and goodwill can endure for generations to come.”
