Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of desperation and betrayal.
In a statement personally signed on Thursday, Abure alleged that Obi was responsible for the lingering crisis within the Labour Party, claiming his bid to “control the soul of the party” had pushed him to act recklessly.
According to Abure, the former Anambra State governor enjoyed massive goodwill from the party’s leadership but repaid it with “evil.”
“This is why we have maintained that Peter Obi lacks the competence, character, and capacity to actualise the vision of a new Nigeria,” Abure declared.
“Nigerians should not forget in a hurry that it was Peter Obi who created the crisis in the Labour Party, which he is now citing as a reason why people should not vote for the party,” he added.
Abure’s remarks came in reaction to Obi’s recent directive ahead of the August 16 by-elections across the country. The Labour Party candidate in the 2023 elections had urged his supporters to back the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the polls, a move Abure says undermines the party.
