Labour declares indefinite strike from Monday over minimum wage, electricity tariff hike

0

Organized Labour has announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting Monday, June 3rd, in response to the federal government’s failure to finalize negotiations on a new national minimum wage and to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have expressed their frustration over the stalled discussions and the continued burden of increased electricity costs on workers. This decision follows a report by Vanguard Newspaper, which highlighted the possibility of a strike if the tripartite committee did not meet Labour’s expectations.

In a press briefing, NLC and TUC leaders appealed to the public for understanding and support during the strike. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” they said, “but we are committed to pursuing this cause to its conclusion.”

The strike aims to pressurize the government to address these critical issues affecting the welfare of Nigerian workers and the general populace.
