Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, made a notable appearance at the Nigeria Forest Economy Summit 2025, held at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

The summit, organised by the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), took place at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, was seen among dignitaries at the event but did not deliver a speech or engage with State House correspondents after the session.

Speaking on behalf of Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Deputy Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Ibrahim Hadejia, addressed the alarming rate of deforestation in Nigeria. He revealed that the country loses over 400,000 hectares of forest annually.

“More than 90 percent of Nigeria’s original forest cover has been depleted,” Shettima noted, warning that the crisis extends beyond environmental concerns to what he described as an “economic emergency.”

The summit focused on positioning Nigeria’s forest economy as a strategic tool for sustainable development and inclusive growth.
