The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has officially approved the Kogi State Government’s proposal to construct an international airport in Zariagi, as confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo.
Fanwo shared that the ministry conveyed its approval in a letter dated October 9, 2024, marking a pivotal development for Kogi State under the administration of Governor Usman Ododo. The commissioner emphasized the administration’s commitment to completing the project promptly and in full compliance with regulatory standards, underscoring the airport’s potential to serve ten surrounding states, alleviate congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road, and reduce traffic at Abuja’s International Airport.
Fanwo highlighted the administration’s vision, stating, “The Ododo administration has prioritized establishing an international airport in Kogi to position the state as a central aviation hub. Kogi’s strategic location at the nation’s heart is a significant asset, and this project will not only bolster the local economy but also elevate the state’s profile on a global scale.”
According to Fanwo, the airport will feature both passenger and cargo facilities, with the administration committed to recruiting top industry professionals to ensure success. “We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Aviation Minister for this historic approval, which will further the development of Kogi State,” he added.
The commissioner also assured Kogi residents of the Ododo administration’s dedication to implementing impactful projects that build on the achievements of the last eight years. The chosen site, Zariagi, already boasts an existing airstrip and has received positive feedback from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development for its strategic potential.
