The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the commencement of a full-scale investigation into the alleged attack on the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, the police said they received a distress call from one Yakubu Ovanja, an aide to the senator, in the early hours of Wednesday, alerting them to the incident.

“Preliminary information revealed that at about 1:00 a.m., three unidentified hoodlums armed with cutlasses stormed the residence and damaged several window panes while attempting to force their way into the building,” the statement read.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okehi Division swiftly mobilised officers to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Upon arrival, they met a relative of the senator, identified as Michael Akpoti, who recounted how the assailants attempted to break into the house before fleeing when he raised an alarm.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch a discreet and thorough probe into the attack.

“The goal is to uncover the motive behind the assault and bring the perpetrators to book,” the police assured.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations continue.
