The Kogi State Government has accused suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of inciting chaos and violating the state’s ban on political gatherings. This follows the senator’s recent homecoming event, which the government claims was a deliberate attempt to stir trouble in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the government dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Governor Yahaya Bello, and incumbent Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo were behind her ordeals. The statement described her claims as “reckless, malicious, and utterly false.”
The government maintained that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions were part of a calculated effort to incite unrest and present herself as a victim after deliberately violating the state’s political gathering ban, which was imposed to maintain peace and order.
“Her statement exposed her plans to use her visit to stir trouble and violence in Kogi Central Senatorial District. We will not allow any part of the state to go up in flames nor permit the killing of innocent souls by the actions of the suspended senator,” the statement read.
The government further alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent activities confirmed intelligence reports of plans to foment trouble in the region. Despite deleting her controversial social media post, the government claims to have saved a screenshot, which they assert demonstrates her intentions.
Describing the senator as a “serial manipulator and incurable liar,” the government accused her of building a political career on falsehoods and disregard for the law. It insisted that her homecoming event was a deliberate act of defiance that jeopardized the safety and stability of Kogi State.
Governor Ododo, according to the statement, has no interest in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s political theatrics, dismissing her accusations as a desperate attempt to garner public sympathy.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that no individual—regardless of status—would be allowed to breach public peace with impunity. It called on security agencies to monitor Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions closely and hold her accountable for any incitement to violence.
Kogi State, under the leadership of Governor Ododo, remains committed to upholding peace and stability, the statement concluded, urging residents to reject what it termed as deceptive political tactics.
