Kogi Assembly Extends Tenure of LG Chairmen by Six Months

0

The Kogi State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of Transition Committee Chairmen by another six months. This decision was made during the House plenary on Friday.

The extension follows a letter from Governor Ahmed Ododo, who cited financial constraints and high wage bills as reasons for the delay in conducting Local Government elections.

Speaker of the House, Umar Yusuf, read the governor’s letter and urged the chairmen to be diligent representatives of their Local Governments. “In the next six months, it will be interesting at the Local Government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly. The Chairmen henceforth should take note of this,” he stated.

Originally, the tenure of the 21 Transition Committee Chairmen in Kogi State was set to expire on July 8, 2024. With the Assembly’s approval, their tenure will now extend to January 8, 2025, when local government elections are expected to be conducted.
