Ihima, Kogi State – The Kogi Central People’s Alliance (KOCEPA) has strongly criticized the ongoing attempt to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the process as deceptive, fraudulent, and politically motivated.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area on Sunday, KOCEPA Coordinator Abdulrazak Baba condemned the recall effort, alleging that it was orchestrated by political adversaries using manipulation and misinformation.
Baba revealed that many constituents were misled into attending what they believed was an empowerment program, only to be coerced into signing documents initiating the recall process.
“The public was deceived into believing that the recall exercise was about empowerment,” Baba stated. “A genuine recall should be an organic process, not one engineered by opportunistic political enemies.”
He further alleged that the recall attempt lacked legitimacy, as it failed to gain traction across polling units, wards, and local government areas in Kogi Central. In some locations, he claimed, those behind the exercise were met with resistance, including verbal condemnation and even physical ejections.
Baba also cited a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja, issued on March 20, 2025, which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving any petitions related to the senator’s recall, insisting that the court order remains in effect.
He expressed concerns over the potential influence of money and political power in distorting democratic processes, warning that without proper oversight, results could be manipulated.
Despite the controversy, KOCEPA commended the Nigerian press for its objective reporting on the issue and called on the Senate to unconditionally reinstate Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
