The abductors of passengers from a Benue Links commercial bus attacked in Okpokwu Local Government Area have demanded a staggering N350 million ransom for the release of their captives.
The incident occurred on July 22, when gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed the state-owned vehicle and forcefully took its occupants into the bush at gunpoint.
A relative of one of the victims, Terna Agbecha, confirmed that his cousin, Hembadoon Akume, is among those being held hostage.
Speaking to the press, Agbecha revealed that the kidnappers have reached out to the family with their demands. “They called and asked for N350 million. Our elder sister has paid N500,000, but they refused to release her,” he said.
The families of the abducted passengers are calling on the Benue State Government and relevant security agencies to step in and ensure the safe and immediate release of their loved ones.
The kidnapping has sparked renewed concerns over rising insecurity along major roads in the state, with citizens urging authorities to take urgent action.
