Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has dismissed the newly unveiled political group, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), describing it as a mere political association and not a true coalition or merger of existing parties.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Friday, Keyamo reacted to news of ADA’s registration efforts with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling the development a “pedestrian joke” compared to the 2013 coalition that led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ADA, supported by the Nigerian National Coalition Group (NNCG), has applied to INEC for registration ahead of the 2027 general elections. The application, dated June 19, was co-signed by ADA’s National Chairman, Akin Ricketts, and its pro tem National Secretary, Abdullahi Musa Elayo.
The coalition is reportedly backed by key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai.
However, Keyamo poured cold water on the movement, saying it lacks the political weight and structure necessary to be called a coalition.
“This is just a simple application for party registration. There is nothing like a ‘coalition’ here,” he wrote. “It is an unnecessary hype the promoters have been struggling to create all along. It is just psychological warfare against Nigerians, a weak attempt at mass appeal.”
The APC chieftain insisted that no recognized political party is involved in ADA’s formation and likened the move to one of many political associations that regularly spring up in the country.
“If they are thinking of recreating what the APC did in 2013, then this is nothing but a pedestrian joke, a complete mockery of that seismic political coalition that birthed the APC,” he added.
Keyamo concluded that the launch of ADA falls short of expectations, branding it a “disappointing anti-climax to all the preceding pomp and pageantry.”
