The Katsina State Local Government election commenced on Saturday with voting activities taking place across the state.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari was among the early voters, casting his ballot at Polling Unit 003, Sarkin Yarn Ward A in Daura. Buhari was accompanied by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Adnan Na-Habu Daura, with both arriving to vote around 11:09 a.m.
Governor Dikko Radda, alongside his wife, Zulaihat, and Deputy Governor, Faruk Jobe, also participated in the exercise by casting their votes.
Former governors of the state, Ibrahim Shema and Aminu Masari, as well as serving senators and ministers, similarly exercised their civic rights in their respective polling units.
Speaking to journalists after voting at his Kofar Katika Polling Unit in Radda Ward, Charanchi Local Government Area, Governor Radda expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing victory.
“I believe that at the end of the exercise, with the kind of projects executed since we came on board, we believe so much in APC, and APC will come out victorious. People should expect their votes to be counted,” Radda stated.
The election is seen as a significant test of grassroots support for political parties in the state, with reports indicating a peaceful and orderly process in most areas.
