The Kano State Government has reiterated that the January 31, 2025, deadline for its land recertification exercise remains non-negotiable. The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning disclosed that over 2,000 land titles have been recertified since the process commenced in 2024.
Addressing journalists on Friday morning, the State Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabar Muhammad Umar, emphasized that the deadline would not be extended.
Umar revealed that the ministry has recorded over one million engagements with landowners seeking forms, registration, and verifications since the recertification exercise began.
He warned that landowners who fail to recertify their titles by January 31 risk forfeiting their properties.
“We have provided ample opportunities for land title recertification because Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is committed to initiatives that serve the interests of the people of Kano. The deadline has been widely publicized to ensure everyone is fully aware of the process,” Umar stated.
The commissioner also announced plans to begin the certification of houses, shops, and farmlands immediately after the current exercise concludes. He urged property owners to take advantage of the ongoing recertification process to secure their titles.
Umar assured the public that ministry officials would remain available to attend to all landowners before the deadline, underscoring the government’s dedication to a smooth and inclusive exercise.
The recertification program aims to streamline land ownership records and promote effective land management in Kano State.
